So over the past week I have spent some more times on Lambda MOO. A word to the wise: never forget your MOO username or password! Since MOOs are an old internet technology they don't really have an easy way to retrieve your password or an "I forgot my username" button. I had to look through old emails from the MOO to find mine (I don't have the best memory).
I am finding that as I spend more time on the MOO it is getting to be a bit boring and a bit redundant. I am coming across the same rooms over and over. Since every time I have to enter the game from the linen closet I start from the same place and move through the hallways the same way. It is interesting because I am actually forming a detailed picture in my head of what this "mansion" looks like because I have walked through it so many times! The guest bathroom is still under construction and I set off the master bedroom alarm YET AGAIN.
Lately I have been focusing on communicating with other MOOers (as opposed to exploring the mansion) but there has not been many people on lately. Today 48 others were logged on and the number has been around the same the other times I connected to the MOO. It may sound like a lot of people but since the mansion has many rooms and corridors, and players can travel OUTSIDE the mansion, it is hard to find people around. I find that as a new player it is extremely hard to interact with others and feel like I have a permanent place in the game. I think that most people on the MOO have been there a very long time and are not interested in letting new people stay in their home. Since I have only a couple hours left on this practicum, I really do not think I will ever feel like I am fully immersed and accepted into the Lambda MOO community.
