Once again, over the past few days I have been spending a lot more time on the forums of of Hypebeast and Superfuture. I have found these sites form more of a community than the blogs because these are actual forums. Blogs, on the other hand, do allow interaction, but it is quite fleeting.
Specifically on these forums, I have been interested in seeing how communities are formed within the sub-sections of the forum as a whole. Because each site is so large, with over 1000 forum topics on each, it is safe to say that a community does not form across the site as a whole.
I have noticed that communities form around sub-sections. For example, on Hypebeast, the community that has formed in the art/photography sub-section is very different from the one that has formed in the general sneaker discussion section. To prove this, I went through the last 10 pages on the Official Film Thread and the last 10 pages on the Post Your [Shoe] Collection Thread. On all of those pages I did not find a single user that posted in both.
I believe that because these sites are more "lifestyle" communities, mini-communities form within them. After all, people have different lifestyles and enjoy different things. What binds all of these people, however, is that they have an interest in fashion and a taste for an aesthetically fine lifestyle. Although they may never directly interact, their is still a bond between the community as a whole.
