After using FourSquare during Spring Break I have come to the conclusion that FourSquare can only be utilized properly in a city. There are simply not enough people and places who use FourSquare for it to be at all useful in random places across the country.
For Spring Break I drove down to Florida so I had quite a few places I could "check in" on the way down. We stopped at various fast food restaurants along the way and the only true update I got from FourSquare was that I traveled “365 miles since my last check in.” While down in Florida, the area I was in was extremely crowded with college students so I figured FourSquare would be a little more exciting. However, I found few users and very little “tips” for the places I was checking out. The only “Trending Now” place was Wal-Mart.
It’s good to be back in Madison where there is some moderate FourSquare activity. The only fun part about FourSquare over Spring Break was seeing where my friends were: SXSW, Skiing in Colorado or just in Madison.
