Practicum # 4 Olivia

While I was home over Spring Break, I played more on Club Penguin. I also had the kids that I babysit play on my name to try to help me become more accustomed to things.

The first thing they did when they signed on was ask me if I had a boyfriend on the game. I explained to them that I did not and I was doing it for school, but asked them if I wanted one, how would I go about getting one. They said to walk around with a heart symbol above my name. I declined to have them do that- but it was surprising for me that kids actually do use this game to have 'boyfriends/girlfriends'.

Next, I asked them to help me earn more stamps. They started playing the games and were amazing at them. I asked them how they knew how to do everything without their being any instructions- and to my shock they replied that they looked up online how to cheat. I was surprisingly shocked because one of the specific rules for this game was that participants must agree to not cheat, by looking up codes or tips from online websites. While I know the game has no way to protect if people cheat or not, I was surprised to see the kids that I know cheat, I guess I was naive to say the least!

I watched them play for quite a bit on my name, the found so many places that I did not know existed and completed secret mission that I did not know were possible. It now makes sense to me why some kids are so good at this game.

I know that I will probably never be as good as them at the game, but I will be looking up ways to cheat on my own just to see what websites exist.

  1. As I was reading your post, it reminded me of when my friends and I used to play Sims. We knew every single cheat, which obviously defeated the purpose of the game. We would have infinite amounts of money, and buy random, useless things for our houses. We also used to try and make as many babies as possible, which reminded me of the boyfriend thing.
