I looked through the issues of interest to me such as: nutrition, abortion, mental health, women's health, exercise and lastly vegetarianism. I decided I would observe and try to understand the vegetarians and vegans on the internet. While I am a vegetarian, it will make it easier for me to understand how the group uses the internet. I do not believe that identifying with the group will hinder my observations, instead I think it will enhance them. Furthermore, I identify as a vegetarian, not a vegan so while I am a part of the group, in some aspects I am not.
I understand that some may ask why in the world do we need a veg(an) support group, and I hope I will answer this question. Furthermore, I am interested in the relationship between the vegetarians and vegans, and the opinion vegans have on vegetarians.
I think its great that you were able to pick a support group that you can relate to. Hopefully you will learn some new things from it and find more about your lifestyle choice and how it differs from a vegan. Just curious...did you grow up a vegetarian or was there a specific instance that you encountered that made you do it?
ReplyDeleteI have been a vegetarian for about 2 years. There was not one specific experience that made me become a vegetarian, but instead a combination of information I received before I made my decision. But I guess two things that greatly influence by decision were: 1. After taking a nutrition course, the realization that I would be healthy and get enough protein as a vegetarian. My body only needs 44 grams of protein a day, and if you look at the nutrition values that is not very much. 2. Reading the book called, "Skinny Bitch" by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin which discusses how to be truly HEALTHY. Overall, I recommend that everyone eats more fruits and veggies to live a healthier live.
