Practicum #7- Taylor Wagner
When I began the practicum project, I had 48 followers and was following 90 Twitter accounts. Since then, I've increased the number of twitters I follow up to 117. My followers have also increased from 48 to 76, which is kind of exciting I guess. Most of the increase in followers is due to more and more friends hopping on the Twitter bandwagon. I also have 5 or 6 followers who are either totally random or various groups on UW's campus. Once this project is over, I will probably set my Twitter account to private to prevent some of the randos from following me. While there isn't as much personal information on my twitter as there is on my Facebook, I would still prefer to keep some level of privacy. I would have to say Twitter has really grown on me. I prefer it now to facebook and am constantly finding myself checking it on my phone. I'm curious to see whether Twitter will be replaced by a new social media site, because thus far I've moved from MySpace to Facebook to Twitter. Although, on the other hand, that evolution for me has taken close to 8 or 9 years.

I can see Twitter getting replaced by another site at some point down the road, but for the near-future I think it will remain the prominent social media that it is. It's just very convenient when it comes to quick updates and finding out who's up to what. I think significant advancements and additions are needed for something else to uproot Twitter as the popular entity it is today. I also think that Twitter serves as complement to other social media sites, and not a replacement. Because of that I think it will have a place in society for quite some time.
