Practicum #6 - Paul Puglisi

I've been paying special attention to the discussion boards lately to see how the users of Kongregate are talking about the death of Osama Bin Laden. The users are definitely talking about it. Under the "Serious Discussion" header, someone started a thread about his death and it is already 9 pages long. This topic has also spilled over to the "Political" thread and how this affects the next presidential election. I've commented on other topics but not on this one. People were getting kind of heated at some points in those threads, and I chose to merely observe. I find this incredibly interesting that a gaming site can play host to such heated and important debates.

Meanwhile, I gave trying to create my own game a few more shots. However, I am just not very skilled when it comes to it. It doesn't seem to make sense to me. The site says that people new to programming and game creation will be able to create games too after following their tutorials. I guess I like to think that I am somewhat savvy when it comes to computer operations, but I just could not figure it out. However, since I do not have a lot of interest in game programming, maybe my motivation leaves a little bit to be desired. Either way, I don't think I will be able to upload a game. It's not too much of a heartbreaker though; I doubt many people would want to play any basic game that I would create.

  1. I think it's really cool that no matter what community you're a part of, events like these will be discussed anywhere. People were obviously talking about Bin Laden in my Xbox Live lobbies and I am sure everyone else in the class could say the same about their communities, if their topic permits such a group. You're always going to get heated opinions on such issues but it's still great that our country allows us to debate such things in the open.
