Youtube vs Hulu

Youtube: I watched this video called "Songs in Real Life". It was a music video created by a group of friends that inserted songs into every day conversations. It was actually really funny.

Hulu: I watched a bit of the Daily Show by Jon Steward. There was an ad at the beginning of the episode and I did not watch far enough to see if more ads were in it.

Youtube allows individuals to upload anything that is a form of a video clip, as long as it follows the sites guidelines, where as Hulu is actual tv shows and clips uploaded from other sources. I am not sure who uploads the files onto Hulu but I would think it would be someone who is affiliated with the show or clip. Hulu comes off as more professional to me, but I think I could waste more time on Youtube due to all the humorous videos people post that have no point except to make people laugh. Both sites can be slow depending on your internet connection. I would choose youtube over Hulu due to the wide range of videos I can watch.

Recently, I have been using Netflix to watch television shows and movies, and I would also choose that over Hulu. Another way to watch television shows online, that usually tends to be pretty reliable, is the networks website.

  1. I agree that Hulu has a more professional feel. Even their advertisements seem more professional, as opposed to the annoying pop ups at the bottom of YouTube videos that you need to X out in order to see the full video. To me, watching shows on Hulu feels the same as watching shows on television. Hulu has commercialized a lot, which, although it is annoying to watch ads, I understand it is necessary for networks to make money in the digital age. YouTube, however, has its perks as well. Although it does not seem as professional, that's exactly the point. It's a social network for amateurs to upload videos and others to watch. YouTube has a more creative, laid-back, and amateur-but-in-a-good-way feel.
