YouTube and Hulu

I love both websites, I think they are very useful! I find it easier to get full length TV shows on Hulu. However, both are very restrictive in terms of what they offer because of copyright laws. I used to watch Hulu when they only had commercials before and after the video and not during. That was very convenient and I enjoyed not having to watch that many commercials. Now Hulu has many commercial breaks that are very annoying. In addition now YouTube has commercials instead of just ads. However, they are shorter and more tolerable for the most part. But the little pop-up ads are very annoying because you need to X them out so you can seen the full screen. I think YouTube benefits from not having to pay their users to upload the videos whereas Hulu would have to pay for the copyrights of the videos. Therefore, YouTube would need to make less money on advertisements.

Furthermore, I see Hulu as just being a normal media source whereas, YouTube is Web 2.0 and allows for user participation. I think it is great that users are able to post what they create on the web. This gives them a chance to become popular because they are good instead of becoming popular because of how much money they have.

  1. I definetely agree with you on the commercials versus the ads benefits. I don't often use Hulu, because I prefer to watch the shows on TV or DVR because of the many commercias added. Although YouTube doesn't offer they same content, their approach on integrated ads is better for the user. I will have to say that YouTube is leaning towards the commercial option a little more. Now they usually would have commercial before the most viewed videos.
