Practicum Post 6_Morgan WIlle

When I was exploring eHarmony today, I found an interesting feature...the personality profile "an insightful view of you". It basically compiles an in-depth analysis that looks at key characteristics of your personalitiy based on the questions you filled out. Based on my answers, I am described as sympathetic, trusting, altruistic, selfless, tenderhearted, compassionate, straightforward, deferential, and generous. It also describes me as "consistently taking care of others". These descriptions are pretty true, which surprised me. eHarmony uses this personality profile to match you with others too. Its a huge report that gives you about a page feedback on your agreeableness, openness, emotional stability, consciousness, and extraversion. I also noticed that they added another feature in which you can "smile" at someone. I feel they are trying to make the site more like the real world because if you smile at someone in real life, you might catch there attention that way which might trigger them coming up to you and introducing themselves. Finally, I found another thing called the "flex match". Basically this is different than an "exact match" because it matches you only on 29 compatible dimensions instead of both 28 compatible dimensions and your important preferences on age and location.

  1. I think it is crazy how eHarmony can take answers to questions and basically describe your personality in a few words. It's almost a little creepy but I suppose really helpful for people looking to find someone compatible on the internet!

  2. It is very interesting how they can describe your personality just from answering several questions. Just think of the ways people can manipulate those questions in order to appear another way. Personally not being a believer in dating sites as I believe they promote stalkers and creepers and give people a false representation of oneself as one can act in one way over the internet and another way in person. I wonder how many people manipulate their personality profiles and how many people do it honestly.
