Practicum #7- Holly

This is my last practicum post! Just as a reminder, my personal homepage link is hollywallace.webs.com. The other week I attended a two hour work shop to learn HTML basics. I learned how to make headings, paragraphs, lists, change font and color, and add images. After learning these basic skills I changed my About Me page into HTML.

To the bottom left is an image of the HTML code I used. To the bottom right is a picture of what it looked like while I was typing the HTML code into the webs.com template box. After typing in custom HTML, a box appears which says "your custom HTML will appear here", as you can see in the top left picture. To the top right is a picture of what my About Me page looks like in a browser now. As you can see, I used code to change the font color of the sub headings. I also attached a link to my Facebook profile on the bottom center.

Learning to code was really interesting. As we discussed in class, HTML is literally its own language, and it was fascinating to see how intricate it is. One typo or tiny error will mess up the entire page. Yet, I don't see myself ever using code in the future because it is time-consuming, complex, and unpractical in a world where templates or easy-to-code programs like Dreamweaver are available.

Aside from coding, I also added two more links to the Links page of my personal homepage. I linked to Danny and Liz's personal homepages.

  1. I like that you took the time to learn some HTML basics because I believe it will really help you if you ever need to do any web work.

I am currently building a website in dreamweaver for a journalism project and you will be surprised at how much code you actually need to know.

The design feature of the program is very glitchy and knowledge of HTML basics, such as alignment and text-transformations, go a long way in eliminating these glitches.
