Blog #5

The theme of this game is definitely a cute/original one, but the concept is just like every other casual game out there. I didn't play for long, but there didn't appear to be a significant narrative, there was NO interaction with others and it was definitely easy to learn. I had some struggles in the first few rounds, but once I learned how things worked, it was pretty easy to figure out the best layout for my plants.

I think what this lacks in comparison to say, Farmville, is the element of feeling a responsibility for your crops. I think a game like this is a lot less addicting, because you have to start fresh every time you leave the page. But I think that only stands true for the web version of PVZ. The free download advertises that you can "Save your progress & high scores" - an element important to someone who wants to continually play the game but needs it to fit into their daily life. I Googled Plants vs. Zombies discussion forums and there were quite a few communities that discussed tactics, hints, etc... so I think that the downloadable version might provide more challenges for experienced users as well.

In all, I think reading into the game deviates from its actual purpose - to numb your brain for a bit. It's just for fun! :)
