Practicum #1-Molly Bennett

For my practicum project I will be looking at the iPhone application and game ARIS. It was created by Academic Technology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and currently only has games that are centered around Madison, Wisconsin. If you do not live in Madison, WI the description of the application says that there are cheat codes you can find on their website so you are able to simulate being there. There are 6 games to choose from and they range anywhere from 7.7 kilometers to 228.2 kilometers. I don't know exactly how I am going to complete the lengthier games which they call quests as I don't have a car in Madison and that is a lot of walking! I may have to explore the simulation and cheat codes option for the those long distance games. Some of the quests are titled Henry Mall History, UW-Campus Tour and Sing-a-long. So while some of the quests are educational there seems to possibly be a entertainment element. The description also says there will be virtual items I will be able to pick up. There will also being virtual characters talking to me and items that they exchange with me. I will also be able to take media recordings throughout my quest it says which should be interesting. There is also a GPS where google maps tracks your quest. Being that we live in Madison, WI and as you all know the weather has been quite cold the past couple of months so the idea of having to complete quests in the snow was not the most appealing. As the weather is starting to finally warm up a little I am going to begin my quests and explore Madison.
