Tomorrow is my practicum presentation on personal home pages. So my question for the class is: Do you think personal home pages will become obsolete? With so many other social networking applications, including professional ones like LinkedIn and Koda, does it even make sense to create a personal home page, which requires more technological competence to create anyways?
I am undecided about whether people will continue to create personal homepages. With the increase of social networking websites my first guess would be no, people will continue to join these social networking websites. However, my roommate just attended a class on how to create your own website and she mentioned that there was some discussion about creating your own personal web page. People such as musicians, photographers, or artists may continue to make personal web pages but these web pages also would most likely serve as an advertisement for their talents and offerings.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I know it would take too much time for me to create a web page when there are so many other social networking website options that I can join and be a part of.
Personally, I think that people will continue to make personal websites even with all of the social networking sites that are going online now. The advantage to making ones own personal website is that you have sole control over content and what is posted. When joining a social networking site you are at the mercy of the creators and their decision on what is acceptable. By creating your own personal homepage it seems like you yourself have control and thus post what you would like to post when you want to post it.
