Practicum #3-KelseyK

So I finally figured out how Last.fm has so much free music! Wikipedia gave me the scoop (seen below).
Besides that, I've pretty much just been exploring Last.fm and listening to a lot of music - as they said in an email the other day, "The more you use your Last.fm profile, the better it becomes." I've also tried to friend a few more people - Last.fm makes it easy to find people with similar taste to you by providing a 'neighbours' tab (seen below).
Next to each neighbour's name are the tags associated with their music (at right) as well as the last track that they listened to - also shown are the artists that we have in common.

Last.fm, like Facebook, has groups you can join to connect to people with similar interests. I've only joined one group - 'We Love Last.fm Painted Black' (seen below). (Because you have the option of either a 'Simply Red' or 'Painted Black' banner at the top of the page). There doesn't seem to be much of a discussion on the main page...just a bunch of people leaving shouts that say "once you go black you never go back" (how creative).

I checked out a few forums on the group's page and posted comments. Last.fm makes it simple to insert HTML, as they provide various tabs and you just have to enter in, for example, an artist or track name (seen above).

Another cool thing that I found on a friends profile was a different 'About Me' HTML code for a pie chart! I don't like it as much as the one I had on my last post but I'll keep it until I find something new/better (pictured below).

The last new thing that I discovered was that Last.fm provides "personalized event recommendations" based on the artists you have in your library as well as your location. (As a side note, a person's library is just comprised of whatever artists they choose to add to it). You can add events to your Last.fm profile as well as coordinate them with your iCal, which I found really cool!
