Practicum #2: FourSquare
My second week with FourSquare has been more exciting then the first. I still have only three friends, but I have been checking places everyday. I need to figure out how to find people I am friends with who are on FourSquare. Otherwise, I have obtained four “Badges.” Badges were created by FourSquare developers to show people’s travel accomplishments while being on the program. So far my badges are:
Newbie: Given for your first “Check-In” at a location
Adventurer: Given for 10 total check-in’s
Bender: Given for checking in 4 nights in a row
Local: Given for checking in at the same place 3 times in a week
These badges are pretty simple for someone new to FourSquare, but there are definitely a few I would like to acquire this semester: Crunked, Socialite, Animal House, 7-10 split. It doesn't give you a description of what these badges are until you unlock them, but I am pretty sure I can figure out what most of them are for.
Although not available on the phone application, the “Stats” page on the site is pretty cool. It gives me details on my check in tendencies. So far I have 21 checkins, 62% at new places, and on Tuesday’s I check in more then any other day.
