Blog 3- Myspace

I used to have a MySpace in middle school before I got a Facebook. I haven't really been on MySpace since, except to view band's profiles. But I can confidently say that I am glad I made the switch to Facebook. At the time I got a Facebook, it was invite only for high school and college students. That made it extremely appealing to me because it was exclusive. Not just anyone could have a profile on Facebook.

Clicking on several random profiles, I found that MySpace has similar privacy standards to Facebook now because many of the profiles could only be viewed by friends.

I dislike, however, the overall aesthetics of MySpace. Facebook has one simple background for every profile, which I feel gives it a more professional feel.

The profiles I was able to see just seemed trashier than most Facebook profiles, filled with misspelled words, slutty selfie poses, and obnoxious backgrounds.

I do admit, though, that MySpace is a great place for bands to have profiles. I have a lot of friends who have MySpace pages for their bands and I also follow a lot of mainstream bands on MySpace. MySpace makes it easy to listen to songs, see upcoming shows, and find out more information about the band itself.

  1. I completely agree with everything you said in your post. I just looked at Myspace (and used to have one as well) and agree that a lot of the profiles include trashy sayings and pictures. I also agree that Myspace is great for bands. You can tell by their main page that that is what they cater to now. Myspace awesome for bands to get their name out there and post music samples for free.
