ChatRoulette – This was not my first time on ChatRoulette, but probably my last. The concept of the website itself is genius, the use of the website is primal. I am sure ever since the first day the web-cam was introduced into the cyber world; it was used for sexual exploitation. ChatRoulette is the culmination.
Like the chat rooms and discussion boards from the beginning of the Internet, the web has always been a place designed for human interaction over a computer interface. I remember when I was a kid going into AOL chat rooms to talk to people from all over the world who had similar interests that I did. Of course, there were always “adult” chat rooms that I veered away from, but this type of interest in sexuality has always been at the forefront of the Internet. Today, the Internet is used for everything, and one of the largest industries on the Internet is pornography. ChatRoulette brings the anonymity of chat rooms to the web-cam. Something about the internet being completely anonymous, if you want it to be, causes people to exploit themselves in ways they would not do publicly. I wonder how popular ChatRoulette would be if it gave your personal information to the person you chat with…
