Blog #3- MySpace

Wow, first of all, MySpace has come so far since I had my profile in 9th and 10th grade! Obviously this is to be expected since it was 6 or 7 years ago, but I was still impressed by the much more legitimate looking site- that is until I started browsing profiles and realized the site had evolved but the members' love of selfie pictures had not(I'm not trying to offend anyone but its hard to deny). That said, there are some cool aspects of MySpace, including a space where you can kind of create a picture of board of your interests (think a bulletin board in your room from highschool with pictures, quotes etc) and a playlist area where you can post songs you like. When browsing for people, the youngest age you can start with is 18 so I guess that would maybe be a security aspect we talked about in class. I'm sure there's still a million 13 year old girls pretending to be 18, but regardless its a start. Plus, I clicked on a few profiles which were pretty much all blocked due to account security settings, so all I could see was a picture and a name. When searching, you can search for people by location, which isn't really something that Facebook has- which maybe makes MySpace less safe/secure. There's a lot of room for customizing on MySpace, including themes and colors, so maybe people see it as a more of a homepage offering than Facebook. Some people put really extensive profile information- favorite books, movies, hobbies, etc, etc, where as some just had some music and a short bio. Two new aspects of MySpace are the TV and Movie sections which kind of appeared to be elevated chat rooms dedicated to specific shows, episodes, movies etc. Overall, MySpace is definitely an all encompassing social networking site, but I'm not opening a new account quite yet.
