Video Response
It is truly amazing how far computers and the internet have come since their beginnings in 1957. Computers are so personal now-they hold photographs, important documents, and music-that it is hard to comprehend the impersonal days of batch processing. I cannot imagine having to enter a cold room to manually feed information into my computer. After watching the video a second time I made an interesting discovery. It seems that two major leaps in the formation of the internet were brought on by fear in the United States. The first was fear when the soviets launched Sputnik 1 that created packet switching. The second was fear of atomic conflict that caused the US to create a decentralized network. If it weren't for fear of other countries' actions, would we even have the internet today?
