For my practicum project I have to investigate into the use of the internet amongst senior citizens. Sounds like a blast doesn't it? However i have found that the amount of senior citizens on the internet has been rising consistently. The main way they use the internet is to stay in touch with their family and friends as well as meeting other seniors online who are in the same situation as them, boredom. Some of the ways they use the internet include email, some are on facebook, there are senior citizen forums and more. There are articles that prove that the use of internet to stay in contact with others actually helps fight depression amongst senior citizens. So while we all think they are technologically inferior, (because they are,) they are still capable of going online and doing basic things like sending an e-mail. They may not know how to use computers right off the bat, but they pick up on it quickly. From experience i know as of two months ago my grandmother had no idea how to send an email from her relic of a desktop, but upon purchasing an iPad, she is now emailing up a storm, checking her stock portfolio and the like. Even though they do not move as quickly as people our age on computers, despite popular belief, they are capable of using them.
